Love Notes // Vol. 29

01 // With a couple of new clients and projects starting to filter their way in to my day-to-day, I've been keeping my eyes out for brand-aligned props and backdrops that fit with a certain aesthetic, and it probably won't come as a surprise that there's some pink in there. I've been loving simple shapes, matte textures and pale wood, and this shelfie, courtesy of Sarah Sherman Samuel, of course, ticks all of the boxes, providing some serious inspo around here.

01 // One of my favourite places to seek out typography and graphic design inspiration is on packaging, and the beauty industry has a lot to offer when it comes to beautifully designed print pieces. I came across this line on the Free People blog, and was instantly smitten with the pink pairing and the bold type on these boxes, which feel like they have a slight retro influence that I can totally get behind.

01 // With the holidays fast approaching, it's hard to avoid all the gift guides and decorating ideas that are starting to pop up. To be completely honest, when it comes to our own home, holiday decor often falls to the wayside, as I'm a little burnt out after weeks of creating holiday content for our clients. We do always get a real tree (which I love), but that's about it.

This year though, I've decided that I want to take it one step further and focus on adding a little more holiday cheer — something that feels like us and that we won't be itching to take down the day after Christmas. So I've been exploring some different options and I keep going back to this stunning eucalyptus "wreath". And the fact that it's actually pretty seasonless? Even better. Stay tuned for more on this idea soon...

Love Notes // Vol. 26

As the leaves start to change colour outside, the temperatures (slowly) drop, and our feeds become scattered with fall colour palettes and holiday-focused styling (Thanksgiving... Halloween... Christmas... 'tis the season!), it's hard to ignore the fact that the seasons are changing. Though I've always considered myself a summer gal, I've been finding myself loving this seasonal shift more and more lately. My Pinterest feed has definitely taken a turn as well, and with warmer, darker tones populating my inspiration boards, I've been trying to figure out just how to incorporate this new mood into the rest of my content — and my real life as well, whether it's wardrobe, decor, or something else altogether.

But before I start to dive into that a little deeper (I've got a very full folder on my desktop of images that are ready to be VSM-ed), I figured I'd start with a little exploration via a Love Notes post, which is always a good way to start to see where those online wanderings take you. So consider this the "fall edition"...

01 // You know how they say a picture is worth a thousand words? This image pretty much sums up my ideal summer style, complete with a few essentials I currently have my eyes out for. An ivory hat for hiding from the sun in style (and pairing with a little dress off the beach), and high-waisted, slightly retro swim suit bottoms. I'm the type who rarely ventures out to go buy a new swim suit (I'm assuming I'm not alone in this?), so after a few years of avoiding it, this season might be the time. Any recommendations?

01 // I've found myself captivated by past Chanel collections recently, drawn to the feminine details and the mix of textures, hints of sparkle and beautiful silhouettes. Every piece seems to have such a story in and of itself, and then when placed within the context of the entire collection, that narrative is continuously woven throughout. I've been playing with various ideas of how to incorporate my love for fashion and the branding work that I do, so being able to pore over couture collections and call it research has been a dream come true, and I'm loving the direction it's going in. Not to mention that this particular shoot has me particularly smitten and left with a serious case of Parisian apartment envy. So nothing new, really.

1 // I’m not sure if it’s the delicate lace, the hint of sparkle, or the mermaid worthy styling of this dress from the Chanel spring 2014 couture collection, but it’s been infiltrating my inspiration boards for awhile now, first as I was working on the Studio B rebrand, and now as I plan my wedding. I’m currently trying to dream up ways I can incorporate this iridescent quality without it being over the top, but it’s definitely one element that’s been defining certain aspects of the styling, so you can expect to see hints of it in one way or another.

It was bound to happen eventually: A Love Notes post dedicated solely to wedding inspiration. We are less than nine months away from the big day now, which means that many of the bigger decisions have already been made and I'm starting to spend more time dreaming up the details. In other words, this is where the magic happens!

01 // I've ended up on the Cocorrina site a few times now, and from the simple site design to the beautiful design work, I always find myself getting lost in it. Corina is a graphic designer, letterer and art director, and I'm so smitten with her style, and the simple writing that often accompanies her posts - this one is from her series The Freelance Life. With my favourite colour palette and that deconstructed edge I love so much, this piece is one that I would totally hang on my studio wall as a simple reminder.

01 // Though my personal style has drifted further away from the overly bohemian these days, the Spell Designs lookbooks never fail to disappoint, and their newest release, Wildflower, is no exception. Ditsy florals prints, sheer fabrics, perfect white laces and a vintage style t-shirt I'm seriously coveting all lend themselves to the magical Bali landscape, and once again I find myself dreaming of a tropical getaway.

01 // This time of year is one of my favourites, when neighbourhood walks are filled with flowers and garden-scouting, and the city starts to come alive, whether it's a busy downtown street or a lazy residential 'hood. I've been spending as much time as possible outside, relishing my morning dog walks as a time to hunt for garden inspiration and pick out dream homes. A few weeks ago I planted the gardens up at our family cottage, and our little patio has also quickly been filled with as much greenery and bursts of bright florals as possible.

01 // Last weekend a friend and I were flipping through inspiration boards and talking wedding details and dress designs. We're getting married within weeks of each other next summer, and so it's been fun to start going through the process together, though it still feels very far away. We ended up on the Dress Theory blog, and I immediately fell in love with this dreamy shoot and its stunning simplicity. Romantic and not-too-fussy, the dress itself is such a beauty, but it was the photography and beautiful light that had me swooning.

1 // These backstage photos from the Reem Acra fall bridal collection a few years ago resurface every now and then and always leave me dreaming up how I can incorporate more florals and fairy lights into my world. The soft, glowing light, the delicate pairing with layers of lace and tulle... so dreamy. There's always something so magical about behind the scenes photos, giving a peek into a world that we don't usually have access to, and this collection tells such a beautiful story.

Toronto Fashion Week Through the Bicyclette Lens

Toronto Fashion Week hit the city a couple of weeks ago, and to rep Bicyclette, we sent Abby to the tents this season and had her capture some of her favourite designers that we thought fit with the Bicyclette brand. Spring was always my favourite season to buy for when I had the boutique, and I share the same sentiment when it comes to the runway shows, whether we're pulling inspiration from the collections, or starting to think about our own styling projects for upcoming seasons.
